About this Kite Kit: Designed by kite artist Greg Kono, this simple-to-construct flat kite flies well in light winds. The “critter” gives young students good practice in cutting around wide wings, which also help to stabilize the kite’s flight. Lots of room to decorate the sail, with geometric patterns from nature (choose from 28,000 species!) or from the child’s own imagination. Recommended for ages eight and older; good for integrating with primary-level science units.  Printed on 11” x 17” bond. Kit contains sails, tails, matchstick bamboo spars, lines and winders. You supply scissors and tape.

Recommended Age: Age 8 and up.

Decoration: The simplest method would be to use marker pens, but substituting the bond paper for more interesting light weight paper with color or patterns would work. Note:  do not increase the weight of the paper, matching the weight of the bond paper supplied is critical in the flight of this kite.

Ideal wind conditions for this kite: Medium (a flag on a pole is steadily moving...but if the flag is flying straight out, it's too much wind!)
